Handcrafted wood studio
Cut once,
kept for life.
We select single boards of walnut, oak and ash and shape each one into an object built to outlast the room it sits in.
The studio
Made slowly,
on purpose.
Urban Woods began in a single-car garage with one table saw and a stubborn belief that a bread box could be a beautiful thing. Ten years on, we're still a small studio — five hands, one workshop, no assembly line.
Every board is chosen for its grain before it's chosen for its size. What's left over becomes a smaller object rather than a bin of scraps — that discipline is the whole of our design language.
Select hardwood
Boards are chosen one at a time for grain, density and character.
Craft by hand
Cut, joined and shaped on the bench — no automated routing.
Natural finishing
Food-safe oils are hand-rubbed in thin coats over several days.
Ready for your home
Each piece is signed, dated, and wrapped in undyed linen.
In the workshop
From rough board to finished object
Five stages, one bench, roughly eleven days start to finish.
Sourcing
Boards are hand-picked from regional mills for straight grain.
Milling
Rough stock is squared, planed and cut to working dimension.
Shaping
Curves, chamfers and joinery are cut and fitted by hand.
Sanding
Six progressive grits bring every surface to a soft, matte touch.
Finishing
Food-safe oil is hand-rubbed in thin coats, cured over days.
The collection
Objects for a considered home
A good object doesn't ask for attention. It earns it, quietly, every day you use it.
